Kyrie Irving has a smooth, fluent game and has the ability to make his teammates better. He has good floor vision, slick ballhandling skills, and a pretty good jump shot. Even though his team lack much talent, under the watch of the underrated coaching of Byron Scott the Cavs should be a better ball club. The key for them will be Irving's individual success. Irving will have to elevate his game big time for them to have a chance at the eighth seed of the Eastern Conference.
John Wall is one of the fastest players with the ball in his hands from end to end. Wall is one of the most athletic players in the league, arguably the most athletic point guard in the NBA. Everything about his game is explosive. Wall attacks the paint with pure speed and force. He is also a very confident player, and I think he should be getting triple-doubles in his sleep in the near future. Wall in my opinion has a better team around him thus far, so the Wizards should get off to a decent start for the upcoming season.
If I had to pick I would probably choose Irving because he has a little better feel for the game than Wall, who probably plays more off his athleticism than his mental game. Taking nothing away from Wall because he is a great talent, but Irving is the better overall point guard today. However, Wall might have the better team so the jury is still out. Both point guards have new teammates in the backcourt. Irving's new teammate, Dion Waiters (Syracuse, #4 pick), is a raw, and an explosive scoring guard who can fill it up in a hurry. Meanwhile, Wall backcourt teammate, Bradley Beal (Florida, #3 pick), is a silky smooth shooter who will complement Wall's ability to penetrate the defense.
I'm looking forward for both of these players to have big seasons for the 2012-13 NBA season.
Who would you take, John Wall or Kyrie Irving?
